Operation Spin

Operation Spin

In a society of rush and run, iCare have once again taken time to pay attention to what matters most, bringing happiness to families that are so often faced with unforgiving and what can be seen as unfair challenges. The Operations Team within Homecare Independent Living (HCIL) set this theory spinning with great enthusiasm to raise money for little Ryan Greenwood. With this mind set at hand, members of staff endured a spinathon, which saw team members spinning for 10-20 minutes each throughout the day from 10.30am – 5.30pm to raise money for the family and grant the latest iCare wish.

Ryan Greenwood, a grandson of one of HCIL’s carers was previously diagnosed with a brain tumour at the age of two and a half, and despite being operated on at the time, the family learnt that the tumour had returned to Ryan, now aged 5. Over the past 6 months, the Greenwood family have attended hospital trips and check-up appointments and despite the operations and physio Ryan has undergone he never complains.

With Operation Spin raising over £400 iCare was able to book a two night stay in the City West hotel, including a trip to the zoo for the Greenwood family from Portglenone. Laura McDonald, iCare Development Manager and Mairi Conlon Senior Forecast Planner, from the Operations Team visited the family to reward them for their hardship over the previous years and as a reminder that happiness can still be found in enjoying a family break together. Mum Zara told iCare representatives “’We had a great time despite the rain the Zoo was great, and the children loved every minute. The hotel was beautiful, and they were so child friendly. They have a draw each day for a star guest… the prize was a little bag with sweets and colouring games. Ryan won the star guest on the Saturday; the hotel gave Lexi one as well which was so nice! Thank you again for everything it was the perfect break after a hectic few months’’.

iCare send its best wishes to Ryan and his family for their future endeavour and are sincerely grateful they were able to play a part in granting this Wish for the family.
