A team effort for the Brown family

Local football club Armagh City FC have once again proven their team spirit can shine brighter than most. iCare’s latest wish was granted with thanks to the iCare Community Football Tournament organised by Armagh City FC. The 6 week, five-a-side tournament saw challengers tackle the quest to bring home the inaugural iCare Community Cup….think charity meets Champions League. The tournament organised by Alex Clifford from Armagh City FC saw 6 teams competing on a weekly basis with over 50 participants joining together in the off-peak season of May-June of this year. Orchard Athletic were crowned champions and awarded the trophy by iCare Development Manager.

Laura McDonald on the cup final night. Homecare Independent Living (HCIL) sponsors of Armagh City Ladies and Youth teams are thrilled that Armagh City FC held this tournament for iCare raising £300 enabling the charity to carry out its most recent act of kindness. Pearl and Alistair Brown from Warrenpoint also adopt a team approach when it comes to their day to day life in the family home. The couple were awarded this year’s ‘Caring Spirit Award’ at the Spirit of Northern Ireland Awards with HCIL among the sponsors of this prestigious event. The couple spend each day in caring for their seven adult children with special needs, five of whom the Brown family have adopted. Laura McDonald and Alex Clifford visited the family at home to reward Pearl and Alistair for their continuous hard work with a grocery voucher to ease the burden of catering for a large family. Alex was delighted to deliver the iCare Wish and meet the family to see first-hand how the funds raised were used. A real team effort to help such a lovely and deserving family!
